Who is the Greek Ombudsman ?

Yorgos Kaminis (Assistant Professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Athens) is the Greek Ombudsman. He was elected on February 2008 for a second, mandate, as successor of Nikiforos Diamandouros elected to serve as European Ombudsman.In December 2008 Yorgos Kaminis was elected Member of the Governing Board of the Association of Mediterranean Ombudsmen. In June 2009 Yorgos Kaminis was elected Vice-President of the European Region Board of Directors of the International Ombudsman Institute.

According to the institution's founding law, the Ombudsman is assisted in carrying out his duties by six Deputy Ombudsmen. Each Ombudsman's Department concerning a different area of activity is supervised by a Deputy Ombudsman:

Human Rights
Andreas Takis, lawyer.

Health and Social Welfare
Yannis Sakellis, Professor of Social Policy at Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences, Head of the Health and Social Protection Department.

Quality of Life
Chryssi Hatzi, lawyer.

State-Citizen Relations
Kalliopi Spanou, Professor of Administrative Science at the University of Athens.

Children's Rights
George Moschos, lawyer, criminologist.

Gender Equality
Stamatina Yannakourou, Lawyer, Doctor of Labour Law
